I ended up choosing different elements from the 3 spreads that I previously had done and wanted to show more color and imagery. I also was able to use the whole article.
i didn't even think about setting mine up the landscape way, but i would work on the spacing especially on the very beginning of the article. i would consider changing the ribbon part right in the bottom i feel like it takes away from the design. Maybe even make the main title bolder so it stands out from the rest
Jean, I think Rey might be referring to the single page Department designs for Exercise 1 instead of this 2-page spread for Exercise 2.
I think you are beginning to combine type and image quite well - the pages look very inviting although I'm not sure whether I'm reading a feature (with 1 article) or a department (with 3 articles). Some thoughts:
1. What text are you using? I questioned this before - and can see that you are still not using the text I have given you. It looks like you have added a section "A Guide to Cassava" which isn't included in the text I've given you. Please use the article "The Next Green Revolution" as you find it in the Word doc. It is ONE article, and must be designed as such... allowing us to read the words in the order in which they are given to you.
2. You are still missing a gutter wide enough to allow these 2 pages to be bound into the magazine. Please leave a wider inside margin on each of the pages.
3. Image of girl eating celery... make sure her face isn't sitting directly on the gutter... she might end up with a staple through her face. I'm not sure why we see someone eating celery... when the content is about food. Please make sure the images support the content.
4. Lastly, consider pulling the the title of the article The Next Green Revolution over to the left hand page, somewhere. It seems too far from the article start... and may confuse the reader.
5. Know that a feature article can flow onto 3 and 4 pages of your magazine... so this spread may easily be only the first 2 pages of it. Don't feel like you need to get all the text onto these 2 pages.
The colors, and general layout are quite nice... but please attend to the other important parts of this... getting the text in place in a way in which we read it as it has been written.
