Rich - your masthead design is interesting, and I'm going to suggest you continue to work on it a bit more so it fulfills the concept you have started with:
I see that the first and last letters extend down and connect with a rule that serves as an underline. So, it's a very "contained" design, which is good. I suggest you allow both ascender "legs" of the H be the same height... matching the one that extends up higher than the rest of the letters - this will create a strong beginning to the logo.
Now... the grass. Why only on the top of the very last T? Why not at the top of the other one, and maybe even more letters? Try it and see what you think. Lastly, do you need the dot over the i? I wonder if we'll still be able to read the masthead just fine... and then the dot won't get in the way of your grass!
Cover images - they are all nice photos, but the one that ties most closely into the magazine content is cover C, and these gardening hands seem to offer us a selection of foods, which is a metaphor for the selection of articles the magazine is offering us. So, I suggest you continue to work on this cover. The things you need to reconsider are how the theme title sits inside the shape of the box, and what font you will use for this (the sloppy handwriting font doesn't work) Here is an idea - put this line of text "INTO" the photo... as if is was painted on the side of the box, or carved into it?
The taglines at the bottom don't seem to be sitting consistently within their shaded areas... they should be all the same so you can establish some rhythm between them.
That's is - nice work so far.
Lastly, rethink the date position and place it neared to the masthead?
