Hey everyone,
Based on the input I've received during my creative brief last week, I decided to scrap the 'spoon leaves' and to digitally illustrate sage leaves! Unfortunately, our instructor didn't take with her a pair of sage leaves to provide raw inspiration for the elements. However, performing visual research on sage crucially benefits me as it helped me understood its roughness! Not only did I apply just one kind of leaf in the cover, I've actually created originally three types of sage leaves to convey interest. However, there's already a lot of activity happening with the grass-covered fist, so I decided to implement just two of the designs of the leaf - one to accommodate the header, the other for the subheads!
The leaves were really a fun process of the cover, but tell me what you think! Stay tuned next week as I promise to post segments of my progress throughout my magazine.

Redo
So here are my redo of my feature and cover. For my feature I'm still having a little trouble with the text, I was thinking of making the left hand page two columns of text.

redos
Here are my redos from last week. I fixed the problem with my image for the cover. as well as woked on my font choices.
Revised for Final: Cover, Department (Science) & Feature
My revised logo is held on the cover as well as updates for the cover. I also added updates to the feature and the department. Still working. Feedback would be the most helpful thing right now.
New Design Brief
This is my new design brief. Last week in class, I received a lot of comments concerning my target audience being to broad. This week I have tried to narrow my initial target audience down to a specific group of people.
Let me know what you think.

Cover, Revisited - Tobias
After addressing a few issues brought up in class this is my reworked cover design.
I removed the diamond shaped bowl to free up space and reduce the busyness of the overall design. I also darkened specific areas located underneath "The Future of Food" and lightened the text slightly to increase contrast and readability.
