Hey everyone,
Based on the input I've received during my creative brief last week, I decided to scrap the 'spoon leaves' and to digitally illustrate sage leaves! Unfortunately, our instructor didn't take with her a pair of sage leaves to provide raw inspiration for the elements. However, performing visual research on sage crucially benefits me as it helped me understood its roughness! Not only did I apply just one kind of leaf in the cover, I've actually created originally three types of sage leaves to convey interest. However, there's already a lot of activity happening with the grass-covered fist, so I decided to implement just two of the designs of the leaf - one to accommodate the header, the other for the subheads!
The leaves were really a fun process of the cover, but tell me what you think! Stay tuned next week as I promise to post segments of my progress throughout my magazine.
Matt I think you don't need the plants in the headlines I think it's distracting. Maybe keep one. Overall great job on the cover, the colors go well and also the layout is on point.
ReplyDeleteMatt - it's great that your attitude is one of continual adjustment and exploration. Good. I think I agree with Jean that you don't need 2 different leaves - but enjoy the potential rhythm that you're creating with the 3 small leaves.
ReplyDeleteColors - if you are suggesting that there is a REVOLUTION coming, you might want to consider a less analogous color palette. Is this too staid? Too peaceful and relaxing? What other color or colors could you incorporate in the design? The background blue is particularly calming - think about experimenting with other colors (brighter, more energetic... but colors that will still sit "back" to allow the foreground elements to stay put)!
