Cover, Revisited - Tobias

After addressing a few issues brought up in class this is my reworked cover design.

I removed the diamond shaped bowl to free up space and reduce the busyness of the overall design. I also darkened specific areas located underneath "The Future of Food" and lightened the text slightly to increase contrast and readability.

  1. Tobias - the work you've been doing digitally to the cover image continues to strengthen as you simplify the shapes within it. Great work!

Now that you have a complete, successful composition - I'm going to ask you one last question:

How can you reflect the "content" of this issue more clearly on in this cover image - even if it is in a subtle way? Is there a future food that can be added to the image? I can't help but wonder about a well-placed cricket crawling across the masthead area.... not sure this would be your approach - but please give this question a bit more thought, re-read some of the articles, and see what you might come up with.

  2. This is almost exactly what I imagined it would look like as you continued to revise it. There are still minor improvements that can be made in regards to the background image. It still feels a little cluttered. Just something to think about, even with your text being crisp and clear.

  3. It's amazing how better it looks with that one dish removed. I really enjoy what you did with the color of the issue title. Matching the contents of that bowl with the text communicates really well.

  4. Ah yes! Removing that bowl really makes a difference! I do agree with Ruby however that it's somewhat busy! If you can find a way to provide breathing room for the subheads before the heading, it'll be golden for the most part! As it is now meanwhile, you're utilizing some terrific strategies on this project.

  5. Really a great job removing the two cups from the image, the wood grain actually looks much better than in the original image. I dont feel crammed on this cover, but rather the placement of the word "Food" seems to be a little to flush to the right, and maybe track the words "The and Future" a little closer together. Personally I really enjoy this design.
