The use of the text with the image throughout the ad is beautiful! However, I've seen this kind of concept before, so keep experimenting with it I think! For the PSA, the image is quite striking and the large header at the bottom of the page works well I think! However, try capitalizing the text where it says, 'the nutritional label…' and it 'won't tell you', and you'll be fine! Good start so far!
I think the first ad works really well, its clean and a powerful image as the background compliments the text as well. The second, I think is almost there. I like the idea that at first you don't know what the ad is going to be about and I think it takes a second to realize the background is just sugar and I think that works to your advantage. I wonder what adding a little color would do? Maybe a little red from the logo and changing some words to different colors? Maybe make coca-cola red since they're logo color is red as well? Just a though, hope it helps!
I also like the first one but I feel like your playing it safe try maybe playing around with these ideas a little more but if you really like these I would stick with the first one
Branin - I think the feedback above is encouraging you to continue to develop these, and I agree.
Yes, the marketing ad for the water filter looks pretty familiar, so what might you bring to this visually to differentiate it? It is quite successful as it is... but I wonder if you might think about compositing other elements into the photo that might add to the message.
PSA - I really didn't realize we were looking at sugar... that image needs to be more clear. Possibly seeing a pile of sugar, and/or a pile being "made" as a line of crystals pour down on the pile - that would be a more active image than a too-subtle background field of sugar. It's important that we see the sugar right away, in my opinion.
Comments about the typography - be a typographer. (Enough said, I don't think you've really considered this aspect of the design yet).
