Round 1 of Table Of Contents

This is the first design I have come up with for my TOC. Really looking for feedback.

  1. Ruby - The page structure and background create a great space in which to place your type - nice. Some things to consider:

    1. The Theme title is styled in a handwriting font, but it isn't good handwriting. Haven't I talked you out of using bad handwriting fonts yet? (grin) Your audience is young - but they are intelligent, college-educated and professionally-oriented, right? So... a badly designed handwriting font simply doesn't make much sense in my opinion.

    2. I'm not clear about the lines of text in the upper black box - and how they relate to each other. It seems like the word "Contents" is randomly floating... and I wonder why we see the issue title before we read the issue name (shouldn't it be the other way around?).

    3. Feel free to pull the department names and the page #s together, they seem pretty far apart. FYI - the T of C is the place you can easily add margin padding to, for this reason (it's done all the time).

    4. I think your Feature article heads should be styled consistently... after all, this is a "list" and so individual personalities are not necessary, and can introduce too much contrast.

    5. Lastly, you can probably get away with the very long line lengths we see in Editor's Notes... but the Notes For the Editor needs to be more readable. FR is too difficult! Have you tried 2 columns down in this area?

Nice general approach, and angled images are intriguing!

  2. I agree with Coni about 'Contents' it does seem to be floating, do you really need it? I can tell by the page numbers what page it is. I really like how you designed the features page.

  3. I Agree With coni, I would also try to make it look less busy as well
