Exercise 1 original and reworked.

  1. Alex, for this to be a magazine Department - you need to create and design a "department heading" that could be simply text and/or text and icon. It should probably sit upper, outside edge of the pages of that department. The reason this is needed is because the article headings should be quite a bit smaller than I see here. They are really subheadings within the department - so please create a 3 or 4 even column grid and work within this structure. No way can anyone read such a long line width as I see under Future Frontiers... should be at least 3 columns. Please visit other student's posts to see what your peers are doing, and/or look through printed magazines to find out the options for Department design.

Rule of Thumb is that the Department pages are structured with multiple even columns, and Features can be 2 even or uneven columns. There are always exceptions to this, but it's a good place to start when you aren't sure how to approach the designs.

Images... this is a lovely photo, but what does it add to our understanding of the content? I don't think so! Back to your image research please, after you have read this carefully and used some of the words for a Thinkstock word search.

    Keep thinking!
