Below you'll find my three grid layouts as assigned. As for the look-and-feel, I wanted the layout of these designs to be clean and crisp. I felt the target audience of this kind of material would be a more well educated and upscale individual.
Michael - you have used the long text I've given you for Features Articles - not the proper much smaller articles to use for a department page. The 2nd page of text in the Word document is the correct section - not what I see here. You were to use 2 or more articles on this page.
The new text is going to help you "chunk" the different articles and create a much less dense page, and one that offers the reader a more manageable amount of information within a page design that is more appealing. Presently, the type simply fills the columns... and no wonder... you are trying to fit the amount of type that would normally sit on multiple pages for a feature article into a 1 page design. Feature articles can easily span 2-4 pages.
So - please rethink this ASAP, use the proper content - and enjoy some white space and subheadings on the pages along with other elements. I've even given you permission to cut the text in the articles to fit your design. Write a Department Title for this page too.
Also, Ii forgot to mention, you should simply reuse the text that you've chosen for Grid A on the other 2 Grids. So the text won't change... but the design, colors, photos, and grid will change.
When I first looked through these I said to myself "That's a lot of text!". I would try creating multiple levels of reading so the layout doesn't seem so intimidating. Also, It feels like you following the grid very strictly. Try spanning across other columns, and sometimes breaking the grid can help pieces of the design stand apart from others.
I love the use of color to differentiate the three layouts and pages. They are simple but well designed. Very easy to follow but it looks like a LOT of type.
