Branin Blodgett Exersize #1

Grid A

Grid B

Grid C
For this layout I used a six-column grid. It was definitely interesting to experiment with this grid. It's a very accepting grid, but things can easily get messy. I liked how I was able to use both two-column and three-column text frames on the same grid (although I didn't display it in my design).

  1. Branin - I see good beginnings here, and each layout shuffles the text frame shapes into a different grid, and quite successfully for the most part. The combination image/header in Grid B is a contemporary solution, nice.

I do think, however, that Grid A with its 3 columns seems to serve your design sensibility the best. I do not see awkward "left over" neg space trapped anywhere, and additionally the design does not appear too dense. Instead, it's easy to navigate, and interesting to read. It seems like all the details are well attended to, including a unique large centered dot used for the article end.

Suggestions: Don't be afraid of hyphenations... your ragged right edges are really ragged. Maybe the running footer should read "The Future of Farms" instead of repeating the Department Title.

Hope this helps - looking forward to seeing what you do next.
