Recipes page

So for my last couple of pages I chose to do recipes page. I really like the way it came out, just wondering if the side bars are to much.

  1. Brianna - the photos on the side are pretty dominant for the spread. I wonder if you could find less busy photos, and find 2 different ones or use a different area of the same photo (so we don't see the exact same image on both pages)... something to add atmosphere to the page, and support (and not dominate) the smaller food photos that sit within the article. The first article photo is great - the second two could benefit from some creative cropping, to make them a bit more exciting and give us a close up of the food. The last photo should sit above its recipe, as you have done of the left hand page. Feel free to move recipes around on this last page to allow the image to sit in the middle of the page and help balance the spread. Add words to fill out the columns as much as you can - currently the last column in the department looks a bit short.

  2. Great idea making a recipe spread!

I agree with Coni about the two images on the side. They’re a little too dominant and similar. Maybe you could find some images that are more closely related to the food in the recipes?
The text on the second page feels a little bit too close to the top line, you should leave a little more room for the reader. I also noticed that you have a lot of recipes and the Mexican Manicotti has been caught between two columns. My suggestion is to maybe only use 2–3 recipes in the whole spread and play around with white space and images because right now, if I see the pages from a distance, the tone looks a bit like an article. Maybe play around with a colour and slightly bolder type for the recipe titles and some indents for the ingredients. Also, don’t be afraid to zoom into the photos…sometimes the images look more interesting and delicious as close ups!
